lyrics

I heard the sounds from down the street, the distant horns and marching feet. You said they sounded out of time but we only heard it line-by-line, and the lines were a mess on Broadway! Yet sometimes it's best to give nothing away and while I wanted to breathe like the rest, I didn't put my lungs to the test.

And our clothes were a mess on Broadway! But we stood in the rain and walked on the pavers. And "under the pavers, a beach!" but the surf washed away and the tide didn't reach and the band continued to play, and the lines were a mess on Broadway. And I wanted to breathe like the rest but all of the notes got stuck in my chest.
