about

The final release by The Shakes, only ever released digitally. These songs were recorded by the band in the basement practice space, and they turned out better than we anticipated. This is an EP that never got a physical release but has a lot of sentimental value for me.

Other misc memories:

We played all of these songs live at least once, except for the long instrumental demo.

Don't love my voice on this but used a great 60's Teisco guitar, this incredibly light thing that groaned and buzzed as soon as you looked at it. Was using a Maton Mastersound live, because it didn't cut my fingers up into ribbons, but the recording is a blood-soaked Teisco.

Bass on the Shakes recordings was usually straight through an Orange AC30 head into a Marshall cab. It's not the lowest, bowel-clenching, bong-rattling sound, but we were focused more on melody.

There were a few songs performed by The Shakes that didn't make the cut, appearing in other projects instead. Canada and Public Holidays from the McQueen Tourism EP both were fixtures in the Shakes set, and another song called Prize Racehorse was reworked by Post War.
